Unmasking of a spinal dural AV fistula on MRI following steroid administration

چکیده

Abstract Background Spinal dural arteriovenous fistulas (dAVF) remain a rare, diagnostically challenging and possibly correctable condition with important prognostic outcomes dependent primarily on early detection treatment. Case presentation We present case of 73-year-old male progressively worsening neurological symptoms after steroid administration for presumed diagnosis transverse myelitis. This is extremely unique, as the steroids helped unmask an underlying spinal fistula by revealing characteristic imaging findings dAVF, not seen original MRI study. Conclusion In setting unclear cause myelitis following administration, possibility ‘masked’ AVF should be considered repeat performed, which might help in eventual definitive treatment this elusive entity.

Spinal dural arteriovenous fistula : a case report

Background: Spinal dural AVF is the most common type of spinal vascular malformation. However, presenting symptoms differ according to site of spinal involvement. This study described a case of arteriovenous malformation with paraparesis and incontinence. Case Presentation: Diagnosis of patient was confirmed by clinical and imaging examination using magnetic resonance image and ruling out ot...

Spinal Dural Arteriovenous Fistula

Spinal dural arteriovenous fistulas are a rare and underdiagnosed pathology. Rapid diagnosis and treatment are, however, major determining factors for the outcome of the disease. The spontaneous course of this pathology can result in a substantial degree of morbidity that may be irreversible. Proper interpretation of the MRI imaging, and particularly the medullar angiography, allow for an appro...

Atypical Feeding and Drainage of Dural AV Fistula

Dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVF) are frequent causes of pulsatile tinnitus. Color Doppler sonography may play a useful, complementary role to CTA/MRA and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) in the assessment of these anomalies’ characteristics, such as an ipsilateral increased flow volume and a low resistive index. In this article, we report a case of DAVF first detected with Color Doppler...

Bilateral Carotid and Vertebral Rete Mirabile Presenting with a Prominent Anterior Spinal Artery Mimicking a Spinal Dural AV Fistula at MRI

Bilateral carotid and vertebral rete mirabile (CVRM) is a very rare condition. We report a new case of CVRM initially detected by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the cervical spine. MRI demonstrated tortuous vascular signal voids limited to the anterior cerebrospinal fluid space mimicking spinal dural arteriovenous fistula. A diagnosis of CVRM was confirmed on the basis of angiographic find...
